The Egg hosts Eclipse at the Ellipse afterparty

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Empire State Plaza was bustling with both visitors and State workers on their lunch break who waited to experience the solar eclipse. Those that stayed local avoided the bumper-to-bumper traffic on parts of the Northway.

In Albany, the sun was mostly covered by the moon, compared to places such as the Adirondack Mountains and Niagara falls that witnessed total coverage. Weather also played an important role in visibility with clouds rolling in at the last minute.

“I saw it once back in my hometown when I was ten. It was really nice. Although, the clouds kinda hindered our view, but it was fun,” said Ogulcan.

Continuing the excitement inside, The Egg hosted a free afterparty. The Eclipse at the Ellipse is more than clever wordplay, as the party featured space-themed movies and food.

“This building, The Egg, is known as an ellipsoidal structure and our original founding legislation from 1979. We were so inspired by the idea of an eclipse at the ellipse that it was too good to not do something,” described Diane Eber, Executive Director of The Egg.

Local Troy Musician, Connor Armbruster, performed at the Hart Theatre with his electric violin. He explained the music he writes is written around both specific places and time. “So, I wrote a new piece this week and then I got here and watched the eclipse. I’ve never seen one before and I just immediately realized like, oh, I gotta change everything up now.”

For those who didn’t want to deal with heavy traffic coming back from the path of totality, some say they were happy to enjoy the eclipse in Albany. “We may be experiencing the partial eclipse, but at least it’s better than nothing,” stated Andrew Maggio.
