Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh, Patidar in line to play in inaugural Madhya Pradesh League

Madhya Pradesh is set to witness the dawn of a new era in its cricketing landscape with the launch of the inaugural Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) in June 2024. This much-anticipated event will unfold in the historic city of Gwalior, promising to be a cradle for nurturing and showcasing the rich cricketing talent the state has to offer.

Among the stars poised to grace this grand stage are Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, and Rajat Patidar, a trio of top talents from Madhya Pradesh who have already made significant strides on the national cricket scene. Their participation in the MPL not only elevates the profile of the tournament but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the state.

The MPL, organized by the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA), will feature five competitive teams: Rewa Jaguars, Jabalpur Lions, Bhopal Leopards, Malwa Panthers, and Gwalior Cheetahs. These teams will battle it out at the newly-built Gwalior International Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur, a venue that promises to be a fitting arena for the display of cricketing prowess.

Mahanaaryaman Scindia, the vice-president of GDCA and the chairman of the league’s governing council, has expressed immense enthusiasm about the tournament’s potential impact on the state’s cricketing culture. The overwhelming response and backing from the cricketing community have fueled optimism for the MPL’s success, positioning it alongside popular T20 leagues like the Tamil Nadu Premier League and KSCA Maharaja T20.

As the MPL gears up for its inaugural showdown in June 2024, the inclusion of Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, and Rajat Patidar not only adds a layer of excitement but also underscores the league’s commitment to providing a platform for emerging talents. This initiative by the GDCA is a significant step towards enriching the cricketing heritage of Madhya Pradesh and offering a new avenue for young cricketers to shine on a larger stage.

The GDCA vice-president, Mahanaaryaman Scindia, said the announcement of the tournament had generated excitement in the state cricketing circles.

“The response we’ve received has been nothing short of phenomenal. With such tremendous interest and support, we’re confident that the league is destined for great success,” said Scindia, who will also be the league’s governing council chairman.
