Rishabh Pant stunner: Adam Gilchrist decodes DC captain’s sensational catch

Legendary wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has explained why Rishabh Pant’s stunning catch of David Miller was perfect during the GT vs DC match on April 17, Wednesday. Pant was in sublime form behind the stumps as he had two stumpings and two catches to his name. Pant was given the Player Of The Match award for his performance with the gloves and his captaincy in Ahmedabad.

Pant’s stunning catch of Miller earned a lot of praise from Gilchrist. who explained why the effort was a tough one. The Aussie legend said when the ball is coming at an angle, the tendency is to go to the right. Gilchrist said that once the ball started to deviate, the base and technique needed to be right from Pant as he has to go the other way.

“A right arm around the wicket bowler bowling to a left hand batter. So then, you know, in your keeping stance, the ball’s coming on an angle. Everything’s angling that way to your right. So it comes in and catches the inside edge. So you naturally go that way. All your weight’s on your right, and then you’ve got it sharply. Once it’s nicked Miller’s back thigh and go back to your left-hand side and you’ve got to have a good, strong, sturdy base,” Gilchrist told Cricbuzz after Delhi hammered Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

“Your technique needs to be right. If you’re up too high, you’re gonna find it really hard to to lunge back the other way with any real authority or power. So, perfect. Good technique, good intent. Cool day for him,” said Gilchrist.

EVERYTHING HE TOUCHED TURNED INTO GOLD

Gilchrist felt that everything Pant did on Wednesday turned into gold for DC as he led from the front and was effective with his captaincy.

“The wicket-keeping well, the catch, the stumpings. Slogged a few there at the end. Got the toss, right. Led Well, bowling changes. Everything he touched turned to gold today. About time the wicket keepers were acknowledged,” said Gilchrist.

Pant and DC will now head to the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi to face SRH on April 20.
